Postdoctoral Fellow

I grew up on the island of Newfoundland, off Canada's east coast, and attended Memorial University in St Johns, NL beginning in 2008. I finished my B.Sc. in 2012 with an honours research project under the joint supervision of Dr. Louise Dawe and Dr. Laurie Thompson.

Following this, I moved to Saskatoon for graduate school in September 2012 and I completed my PhD in organic semiconductors for solar cell applications in Prof. Tim Kelly's group at the University of Saskatchewan. Saskatoon became a second home, and five years of prairie sunshine helped fuel my love of solar energy.

After my PhD I moved to Grenoble, France for a postdoctoral fellowship at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (Le CEA) and worked in the SolHyCat research group with Dr. Vincent Artero and Dr. Murielle Chavarot-Kerlidou. At the CEA I shifted focus from direct solar electricity research to solar fuels production using transition metal photosensitizers. Living on the doorstep of the French Alps kickstarted my love of mountain sports and allowed me to discover rock climbing, mountaineering, and backcountry skiing.

In August 2019 I landed in my current position at the University of Calgary with Prof. Simon Trudel. Here I've returned to the field of organic electronics, researching new charge transport layers for roll-processed organic light emitting diodes. Calgary's location on the edge of the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains is perfect for returning to my prairie home without losing beloved mountain sports.
